The coverage area of the journal is the space between the Arctic islands and the southern borders of the Urals and Siberia including: in the west — the eastern territories of the Nenetskiy autonomous district and the Komi republic, Udmurtia, Bashkortostan, the east of the Kirov region and Tatarstan; in the south — the Orenburg region and the north of Kazakhstan (the area as far to the south as the latitude of the city of Astana), further along the southern borders of Siberia; in the east — to the eastern districts of Yakutia and its borders with the Far East.
The volume of your manuscripts may be from several lines up to several pages of typed text. An author may submit up to 3 reports for an issue of the journal. The number of articles with multiple authorship per issue is not limited. It is preferable to publish large articles of more than 20 pages of typed text in parts. If you wish to write a survey of the fauna of a group in some area, you should previously discuss it with the editors.
The recommended way of writing is an annotated list of species. The order of appearance of the species in the list and their scientific names should follow the most authoritative taxonomic summaries or guides. The areas of research or registration sites should be described in relation to the nearest major settlements or using geographic coordinates. It is important to give valid arguments to statements about the status of some species in the described area (e.g. breeding, wintering, migrating etc.) and to give some evidence of reliability when determining “difficult” species. In complicated situations it is highly desirable that photos, video or audio records be provided to confirm the correct species determination.
When submitting a manuscript to the journal, the author must guarantee that his or her manuscript does not contain data fabrication or falsification (data fabrication implies lack of any research and making up data while data falsification means that the researcher has distorted some data) and plagiarism (unlawful use of other people’s ideas or works without any reference to their source and any permission to use them, deliberate assumption of the authorship for another’s work or its part). Also, submission of the same manuscript to other journals and autoplagiarism (similar or identical manuscripts published in other journals including journals in other languages) are impermissible. If some parts of the submitted manuscript have been published before, the author must give references to the earlier publication.
Manuscript Formatting
Manuscripts are to be submitted electronically as .rtf or .doc attachments via e-mail to the editor in charge of the fauna in question or through the online system of manuscript submission (being tested at the moment).
Please make sure that the addressed editor confirms the receipt of your materials. In summer, the editors may reply with some delay as they are usually out in the field for research.
The editorial board welcomes submissions not only from professional zoologists, but also from amateurs who are ready to share their new facts on animal distribution. The requirements on manuscript formatting in various journals may be very different, but in essence they are similar and based on the international standards of scientific publications at which all journals and all works must be aimed. These rules might seem highly complicated or even impossible to fulfill to many authors, even to experienced scientists. However, these rules only seem such and are reasonable when thoroughly understood. So, please just try to do everything as required and do not hesitate to contact the editors in case you have questions.
All articles written in English require Russian abstracts. Please do your best to provide a Russian abstract in your submission. If you are unable to do so, please contact the editor in charge and at least compose an abstract in English. The editorial board will assist you in translating your English abstract into Russian.
All manuscripts are subject to reviewing. If a reviewer recommends correcting your article, it will be returned to you for correction. The corrected article must be covered with a letter describing the corrections and giving answers to all the comments of the reviewer.
The editors reserve the right to cut the text and/or make stylistic changes to it (without altering the article semantics) without consulting the author(s).
